I ♥ Airline Food!

Posted by in Travel | March 12, 2013

Let me clarify that… I love the food in the front cabin. The assorted random crap in an $8.95 snack box tossed to you from cart in the back is pathetic.

I can’t believe I am the only one sitting on a transcontinental domestic flight wondering if this segment qualifies as an ice cream sundae flight. I sometimes I ask the flight attendant before we take off, taking advantage of that eye-to-eye opportunity when they take my coat, but most of the time I restrain myself to wait and see if I am surprised. Do I dare sneak a peek at the pre-flight galley prep to see if they are storing bowls?

Take off, hot towel and then, ta-dah, warmed mixed nuts… and disappointed if they are cold. Almonds… and thinking what has happened to the premium nut mix? Why don’t they offer champagne on domestic flights anymore? I happily settle in with a diet Coke with a wedge of lime, saving my Weight Watchers Points Plus values for the possibility of ice cream 1,850 miles yet down the road.

I think I can blame this on my Mother.

Just when you think you could not have another bite after a three course lunch, the look of surprise, awe and exclamation of OMG on Mom’s face was only surpassed by the contented look after finishing her ice cream sundae (extra wet nuts) as we cruised 39,000 feet somewhere over the Irish coast en route to London. ‘Take your Mom somewhere special’ will be the topic of another blog post. For now, as they say, It is time to fly and eat!
